Obtain feedback before forum starts

TS,Monday July 19, 2010

It was reported that the Land Public Transportation Commission would organise a forum at the end
of the year to obtain suggestions and views on the sector.
Forums provide a great opportunity to air and listen to various presentations and arguments by a
diverse group of stakeholders. However, too much time is normally spent lamenting or revisiting old
issues.
Instead, the emphasis should be on finding solutions and proposals put forward should be
deliberated on with supporting rationale rather than emotion.
The forum can be much more effective if stakeholders and concerned parties are invited by the
commission to submit their proposals in advance.
The feedback can then be summarised, collated and posted on the commission’s website for
public scrutiny and comment.
The public will then be aware of the issues raised and proposals offered, and can be better prepared
to argue their case during the forum.
During the forum, the commission should be ready to provide some answers to address public
concerns rather than getting their input and taking down the questions for reply later
The commission should not be viewed as a lumbering giant lacking in urgency.
