I refer to the letter, “Millions wasted on return trip from airports” (NST, April 6) and wish to point out that these touts are not taxi drivers.
Those who often meet passengers arriving at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) he same group of people touting there.
KLIA is plagued by touts and they come in many different forms. I have seen one wearing a jacket and name tag operating in the arrival hall.
Those who have unsuccessfully tried tackling the menace believe that these touts work in cohorts with those in charge of airport security.
The airport authorities have wisely got rid of many counters outside the arrival hall operated by tour, transport and car rental companies and hotels.
Touts have no qualms charging a princely sum for a trip to the city. They make use of a pool of pirated taxis and whenever they are short of cars, they will approach licenced taxi drivers dropping off passengers.
