Bangsar Baru’s very own shopping guide

Have you ever wished you had a map of all the shops in a particular area of a housing estate?

For Bangsar Baru residents and visitors, someone has ‘heard’ this wish and promptly ‘granted’ it.

Mr. YS Chan, general manager of Cloud 10 Executive Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd, has come up with
a list of ground floor shops in the commercial centre of Bangsar Baru.

A simplified map provide on the back page also shows users of one=way streets in the area,
bordered by Jalan Telawi, Jalan Ara and Jalan Maarof.

The 100-odd shops are grouped into 45 categories, according to the nature of their business.

The pictogram form is used to give the leaflets a fun and interesting look.

The leaflets are a community service project by Cloud 10 and distributed free to shops and
 residents in the surrounding areas.

“When I was new to this place, I often wondered what goods and business services were available
and their location. So I decided to find out all the shops that were on the ground floor, and list them
 down in categories.

People can easily find out from the leaflet which and where are the shops selling the items they
want. They will also have a choice of several shops,” said Chan.

“It will also come in useful for businessmen who want a survey of the kind of businesses that
are already in operation and locations of up-and-coming shops in relation to the rest of
the immediate surrounding areas,” he added.

The designers of the leaflet are in-house artists of an associate company of Cloud 10.

On their own initiative, the artists looked up telephone numbers of the listed shops
from the telephone directory. Chan then called up every one of the numbers to verify them.

He hopes that other companies would update and add to the information to the leaflet and
that his one-off project will prompt others to provide similar convenience to customers in their areas.
Of the 5,000 copies that he printed, 3,300 had been distributed. A majority was distributed to
residents of condominiums in Bangsar, while shops in Bangsar Baru were given 10 copies
each to be distributed to staff and customers.

“The leaflets were well-received even at high-security condominiums where flyers are usually
rejected,” said Chan.

The leaflets are available at Cloud 10, which is located on Jalan Telawi Dua, Bangsar Baru.

A member of the public wrote in for the Shopping Guide

Dear Sir,

I was told of the initiative and enterprise of your firm in publishing a shopping guide of your area.
Three overseas (London) associates of mine will visit Malaysia soon.
We will be grateful if you can rush to me three (3) copies of this guide.
Malaysia needs executives like you all who are very civic conscious and who are always
looking for ways to promote Malaysia.

Warmest regards,

Sincerely,
L.C. Choo
