Give high-end tourists suites but keep rates as they are

TS,Saturday March 20, 2010

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is the latest to point out that major hotels should charge
five-star rates as under-pricing would distract high-end tourists who are prepared to pay a premium
for excellent service and quality.

Are our hoteliers afraid to price themselves out of the market?

I believe those running major hotels are experts in managing yield which is critical to their survival.
Credit should be given to them for not profiteering on the influx of tourists, especially during peak
seasons.

It would be a mismatch when high-end tourists are offered guest rooms. They should be offered
presidential suites that are available at our five-star hotels and which will satisfy even the most
discerning tourists

The rates for the rooms can be maintained for the mass market to ensure the continued growth of
visitor arrivals.
