5-minute Marketing Course

SM,2009

Matta members can pick up some marketing techniques used by various exhibitors at Matta Fairs.
Here are some excellent examples.

A macho exhibitor who specializes in high-end FIT packages with himself as the tour escort
captivated a group of well-heeled women. At the end of his sales talk, he promised
“Satisfaction Guaranteed”. That is Direct Marketing.

A group of college students dressed in colourful caps and t-shirts bearing the company name
and logo of a large tour agency entertains visitors near various entry points to the fair with
well-rehearsed song and dance routines proclaiming the quality and excitement of their tours.
That is Advertising.

A group of sales staff kept busy throughout the 3-day fair encouraging window-shopping visitors
to drop their name cards in a box or have their phone numbers recorded in a list in order to be
included in a lucky draw. The following Monday onwards, they rang all the contact numbers
obtained. That is Telemarketing.

A smart executive spotted a large family exhausted from checking out tours and arguing over
the most suitable holiday packages. He approached them with a smile, invited them to
relax on the thoughtfully placed massage chairs, poured them each a drink and then said,
“By the way, we offer the best arrangements as everyone in the family can have different
programmes at our holiday destination.” That is Public Relations.

At the following Matta Fair, a group of women whispered excitedly to each other when
they spotted a familiar exhibitor. Later, one of the women approached the macho exhibitor
and said, “I hear you always deliver the most satisfying experience”. That is Brand Recognition.
